Nearly time

So after not answering emails for 6 months, our plumber announced yesterday that he is starting on Tuesday. Two days to clear up after Christmas, wash guest sheets and towels, move out of bedroom and bathroom etc. etc. And the course website opens on Friday - I need to de-stress by then.

Don't they want me?

I started the registration at the OU. Yes, I bit the bullet and tried to register for 'What is Science?' Hopefully I have some idea of the answer but I want to take this one slowly. The system told me that I had been a student before. Well remembered after about 6 years. And then said I needed to contact them before I could register. Do they not want me back?

Is my brain sharp enough?

I have been trying to do the Today programme 'Puzzle for the Day'. About patchwork quilts. I know how to work out the area of the quilt and even the probable side lengths but I have no idea how to actually assemble all the different sized squares. Does this mean I am too old and stupid for astrophysics? Are there quilts on Mars?

Can I still do Maths?

With a Maths degree, they might not expect me to do the introductory Maths courses. But my A levels were in 1969 and my degree in 1972. I looked at OU assessment exercises for maths. Some of it I can still do (algebraic manipulation). Some of it I can do but painfully slowly (about half of the rest). And some I have done in the past but can't remember anything about. Eigen vectors, anybody? I need to do all the maths courses because I want to feel solid at least at that part of the course. And I would be humiliated if I had problems with Maths on the higher levels of the course.

Restart

I have not been blogging because I have not really been doing anything much. (Apart from a long holiday on a cruise round South America - see my other  blog) But that has to change. The current plan is that I have gone as far as I am likely to with the humanities and it is time to go back to Science. I haven't been involved with Science since I first graduated in 1972. So it is a bit daunting.
